You can also just remove the animal taming skill from your skill list. Of course, your companion will then return when you put the skill back in your list.

you can either remove charm animal from ur skill list or give him 2 a tamer, but pets are quite helpful anyway

go to Jarrel the Tamer outside Ascalon (Post Searing)
go to Jarrel the Tamer by Master Ranger Nente (Pre Searing)
